Ko wai mātou

We don't stand alone in our knowledge, it has been handed down -
he tāonga tuku iho.
It is not ours to keep - it is ours to share.
It does not come from us; it comes through us from those that have gone, those that have illuminated the path for all of us.

My journey as a weaver started as a child sitting with my mum and kuia Rangimarie while Nanna was teaching mum. I was quietly watching, listening and learning. The lessons were not just of the hands, but of the heart and mind. A way of being, a quiet humility and dignity, a generosity of feeding knowledge.

Mum and Nanna were kaitiaki of tradition but were also innovators. They both shared their knowledge freely. My kuia left these words for us all -

E ngā uri whakatupu
whakarongo kia kaha
Hāpainga ake ra,
ngā mahi huatau a ngā tūpuna
i waiho ake nei...

This online community is a way to share and uplift ngā mahi a te whare pora. We invite you to join - hono mai, nau mai.
